Martek Creates and Executes Move Management for the Air Force
Location: Prince George’s County, MD
In an effort to realign divisions of the Air Force District of Washington (AFDW) and consolidate them at Andrews Air Force Base, Martek was requested to coordinate the two-stage move of Major General Smolen and his division, including one Chief, one Colonel and one MSgt, as well as the Major General’s Support Staff.
In the hectic world of the AFDW there is little time to focus on moving from base to base. That said there were no relocating processes in place and divisions had no real direction except knowing their final destination and the date they need to report to the new location. Due to the import nature of his work, General Smolen’s office could not experience any downtime during the move.
Martek visited Bolling and Andrews Air Force Bases to meet with Major General Smolen’s division to gather their move requirements and field survey both locations. It was determined that Martek would do everything connected with the move. Detailed instructions were created and presented to each affected person. Packing assistance was given to all staff to lessen the impact on day-to-day duties of the Major General and his division.
Moves took place at two separate times with Major General Smolen’s support staff moving during the week in order to allow time to unpack and get back to normal working order prior to the arrival of the Major General. Major General Smolen’s move was conducted on the weekend after hours. These moves were conducted with the utmost care and respect due to the handling of our country’s flags as well as the Major General’s valuables and mementos from his years serving our country.
Overall, the results of the relocation were outstanding with on time, on budget, no damaged or missing items so that General Smolen and his division were up and running Monday morning without any downtime.
